DigitalOcean’s mission is to simplify cloud computing so builders can spend more time creating software that changes the world. At DigitalOcean, I’m responsible for the visual brand and digital experience across multiple touchpoints. Take a look at some fun work below.
Upon starting at DigitalOcean, the team had just worked hard to push a new web experience forward. It was a sound system, but they realized some shortcomings once it launched, so a self-initiated project was underway to clean up the system. A new design system called Kraken had kicked off. Kraken is a robust system that accounted for some previous blind spots. The page to the right is the recently revamped homepage that uses the new system. It’s flexible and efficient. The ultimate goal is to open-source the system so others around the world can benefit from it. View it here.

DigitalOcean has a rich history of great illustration. Before my time at DO, they had great illustrators on staff, and I wanted to do my best to carry that legacy on. We worked internally to create a brief that would fulfill the needs of the changing company while still paying homage to the vibrant brand. We partnered with El Salvador-based The Lab Studio to establish a fun, colorful, and engaging style that toes the line between geometric and organic shapes. DigitalOcean leans into our illustration to help differentiate ourselves from the rest of the field, which is pretty dry and, if I’m honest, boring.

We needed our spot iconography to match the look and feel of our beautiful new illustrations, so we worked to establish a list of all the different icons across our website and have been working to build a deep library of differentiated icons to support benefit statements across our touchpoints.
